Wumbers by Amy Krouse Rosenthal

Recommended Grades: 4-6

So what is a wumber?  It’s words cre8ted with numbers!  A fun look at mixing words and numbers to create a wumber. Wumbers is a fun story to read with our texting generation.

Lesson Idea:

Writers Workshop: Read aloud Wumbers and look at all the words that the author created using a mixture of numbers and letters.  Encourage students to notice the sounds the numbers make, as that is really how to mix the two together.  Brainstorm a list of words that can be created using wumbers.  Ask students to write their own wumber story.
